KOOL KOOR

la biographie

Kool Koor was born in New York in 1963, in a family of artists of Caribbean origin.

Kool Koor is a street art painter. Former comrade in arms of Basquiat and Keith Haring, Charles Hargrove, aka Kool Koor, is a true product of the South Bronx.

Son of painters, he studied architecture and illustration, while also maintaining his passion for graffiti.

At the age of 16, he exhibited his work at Fashion Moda, the first gallery to focus on Bronx artists. From there, he crossed the East Village, and then the Soho art scene. ‘Grafitti connection’, ‘Graffiti writer’, the aerosol artist Kool Kool is one of the most interesting figureheads of the graffiti movement.

He wields the spray can with eloquence and disperses vivid colours with neon pink, gold, red tonalities to create futuristic landscapes, neither figurative nor abstract.

Kool Koor’s work is based on architecture. Fascinated by architecture since his youth, he has never stopped recreating it in his own universe. His work is full of parallel worlds intertwined in a very fluid way with pervasive labyrinthine structures. Kool Koor has an intrinsic and unique style.
