Jean FUSARO

la biographie

Jean Fusaro was born in Marseille on June 19 1925.

He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon. During the early years, this painter led an active fight for the new French figurative painting, and these last twenty years have seen his own style progressively solidified in international pictorial circles.

He received numerous awards and took an important place in what was called ‘The School of Lyon’, alongside André Cottavoz and Jean Couty.

Looking at a painting by Fusaro does not require any prior instruction: we grasp the visual meaning at first glance. And our first feeling is what we usually call: ‘the happiness of expression’…

It can be said that Jean Fusaro’s paintings have an immediate musicality which make his work instantly recognisable, as one recognises three notes of Debussy or Ravel…

Jean Fusaro sets very diverse scenes in landscapes of a range of particularly fresh colours.

This technique is quite characteristic and conveys his idealistic and positive outlook. His fluid style and his command of colours have contributed to his success both in France and internationally.

His painting is more suggestive than expressive, inviting us to think, to listen and to be anchored in the present moment.
